Women are more interested in checking each other out than ogling men says a new survey of 2,000 women by online swimwear retailer Swimwear365.

Apparently, more than half of us are too busy checking out what other women are wearing, whether their boobs are real and what brand of handbag they’re toting, to spare much thought for the opposite sex.

Just under half also admitted that they dress to impress other women on a daily basis as well as on big nights out.

Well, we’ve all done it, haven’t we? According to the survey, comparing ourselves against other women is a favourite pastime, particularly when we’re on the beach.

Around 80 percent of women surveyed said they like to check out other women while sunbathing, with just under half are interested in their swimwear – we know we are – while one in twenty is concerned with the state of their tans.

Other popular points for comparison include: is she thinner than me, is she married, what shoes is she wearing, and does she need to retouch her roots?

‘Women check out other women because they can relate to them, and there isn’t a woman on the planet who doesn’t love people watching,’ says Swimwear365 stylist Helen Boyle. ‘The beach is probably the best place to have a good nose at other women, and you can hide behind your sunglasses when you are having a peek.’

The survey also highlighted that most women are not comparing themselves in a spiteful way, however, and many regularly compliment women they don’t know on how they look – something most wouldn’t dream of doing to a man. Around half also admitted they get more of a buzz when complimented by another woman than by a man.

Swimwear365 stocks thousands of swimwear styles, catering to all different shapes and sizes, and stocks exclusive brands such as S.Oliver, LASCANA and Buffalo, along with well-known names such as French Connection, Adidas and Marie Claire.
