We’ve gone dotty for spots
Fashion’s retro revival continues for spring/summer 2013, and in our opinion there’s no better expression of our love for vintage style than swimwear. From high-waisted bikinis to demure yet sexy low leg swimsuits, the vintage look is just perfectly suited to the beach, and we can’t get enough of the two classic and enduring print favourites – spots and stripes.
So, in celebration of all things retro, here are our top picks for polka dots on the beach. We’ve also rounded up our favourite stripe styles.
It’s the colours of this Joules Sayler Boyleg Swimsuit that make it stand out from the multitude of other polka dot styles this season. The pink highlights against apple green set the retro look perfectly, and at just £49.95 from John Lewis, we think it’s a bit of a bargain as well.
Equally adorable is this Red 50s Tankini from Joe Browns. In the classic red and white combo, this tankini is super glam and flattering for a bit of vintage lounging by the pool. £32.95 from Debenhams.
Figleaves got us hooked on this polka dot beauty the first time we saw the tube ads, and we love it just as much even after travelling past its image every day. The Pin Up halter neck bikini in baby blue and white is from Midnight Grace by Figleaves, and costs £28 for the top and £18 for the bottoms.
For fuller bust dottiness, look no further than Curvy Kate’s Pebble bikini. Its two-colour spot pattern is a contemporary take on the traditional polka dot, and the moulded bikini top comes in sizes 28D to 38G. Available from Simplybeach.com for £35 for the top, and £18 for the shorts.
And, last but not least, Freya’s Hello Sailor Underwire Sweetheart Bikini set combines both of our favourite prints in a vintage nautical colour palette for a thoroughly modern look. Top, £38, and bottoms, £24, House of Fraser.
