We are always hearing women complain that they can’t find bras they like, that come in their size, or fit them properly. It’s one of the reasons we launched this website – to get the word out that pretty much whatever your size, shape or style preference, there’s something out there for you.
In the case of women who have had partial or full mastectomies as a result of breast cancer, we’ll admit that the choices are a little more limited. But they are not nearly as limited as many women think.
There are lots of specialist mastectomy lingerie retailers around the UK and Ireland, and many lingerie boutiques carry bras and swimwear designed for wear after breast surgery. The choices in terms of style are also much more wide ranging than they used to be, and technology developments mean mastectomy bras are becoming more supportive and more comfortable every year.
In this feature we have highlighted some of the latest styles on the market and provided links to where these can be purchased. However, even more so in this case, we recommend finding your nearest specialist retailer or lingerie boutique and going in for a fitting – it might make all the difference to how you feel. Have a read of our mastectomy bra fitting article for more information.
And don’t forget, if you buy a mastectomy bra for your own use, you are entitled to a VAT exemption. Ask your retailer for more information. These bras are often quite pricey because of the functionality involved, so you don’t want to pay more than you have to.
Finally, if you’re still really struggling to find something you like or somewhere to shop, please let us know and we’ll try to help. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
And now here are the bras…

New Zealand’s maternity bra brand Hotmilk has just launched a mastectomy bra after extensive testing. Hotmilk’s design team met with a local breast surgeon to research the sensitivity and discomfort experienced by women after breast surgery, as well as the various stages of each procedure. The bra was then tested for six months before being released.
The result is the pretty Sophia bra, which features delicate lace with soft microfibre and has a cotton lining for full cup comfort. We love the autumnal mocha and black colourway. The bra is sized from 32-38 C-F and is not yet stocked in the Uk but Hotmilk is offering international shopping.
