Bondage style strapping on lingerie and harnesses – and even tights – has become more and more popular over the last few seasons.
And it’s a trend that’s no longer confined to luxury pieces from the independent designer brands. Strapping has entered the mainstream, thanks partly to the underwear-as-outerwear trend to which this type of garment is ideally suited. Showing off your bra straps is now positively encouraged!
As a Halloween treat, here are some of our favourite strappy pieces – from high-end designers to the high street. Just in case you’re feeling a little provocative…
Bordelle
Lingerie and bodywear brand Bordelle has a strong bodycon bondage aesthetic and strapping is a key theme. We love this provocative demi cup Gia shelf bra. Team it with the brand’s Harness thong.
Buy: Bra £110, thong £45, Bordelle.co.uk
Lascivious
Lascivious is all about provocative style, and this Tyra Cropped Tee is certainly that. Jessie J is a fan, wearing the Tee at this year’s V Festival. Perfect as underwear or worn as outerwear, each one is hand made to order.
Buy: £235, Lascivious.co.uk
Nichole de Carle
London designer Nichole de Carle is known for her signature geometric strapping on pieces like this Catwalk brief with braces. It’s a versatile style that can be combined with the brand’s bras or worn on its own.
Buy: £93, Dolcifollie.co.uk
Agent Provocateur
Agent Provocateur is another brand that has incorporated bondage elements in its designs for years. We love the way this seductive Alina bra and ouvert brief softens the strapping with pretty French lace.
Buy: Bra £110, brief £110, Harrods.com.
Karolina Laskowska
The Ela bra is a slightly more romantic take on the strappy look from new brand and lingerie design student Karolina Laskowska. The gold and rose tulle lace on the cups is gorgeous, and the bra also comes in ivory.
Buy: £90, karolinalaskowska.co.uk
Marlies Dekkers
The Dame de Paris is signature Marlies Dekkers at its best. An enduring best-seller, the straps sit beautifully on your cleavage to add a touch of cool to even the most casual outfits. A Fashion Bust favourite.
Buy: £59, Figleaves.com
Topshop
If it’s on trend, it’s in Topshop, and the high street giant has a number of well-priced strapped pieces this season, including this cross front satin bralet.
Buy: £25, Topshop.
Topshop
Also from Topshop is this velvet strappy body. Perfect for wearing under a jacket with a pair of jeans – if you can brave the weather.
Buy: £35, Topshop.
H&M
For those on a budget, this H&M padded underwired strapped bra is a great buy. We love the contrasting textures and the high front strapping. Definitely designed to be seen. Wear it with the matching string brief.
Buy: Bra £14, string £5.99, H&M.
