The plunging neckline – it’s a trend made popular by celebrity red carpet outfits and it’s set to be the look of choice this Christmas, according to new research from lingerie brand Wonderbra.
The brand has just launched a brand new Ultimate Plunge bra in response to the growing trend, and has revealed that more than half of women aged 18-35 are planning to wear a plunging dress to their office party this year – that’s 4.2 million women. Are you one of them
Collectively, UK women will spend approximately £186 million on outfits with plunging necklines this Christmas, with those in London spending the most on their party outfits (£52.61) while those in the South West will spend the least (£34.50).
Wonderbra conducted a survey of 1,000 women in October this year ahead of the Ultimate Plunge launch, which discovered that 56% of women aged 18-35 will be buying into the plunge trend, many with the hope of starting an office romance. The plunging dress is most popular in Wales apparently, followed by the North East and Scotland.
Wonderbra’s new bra promises to be the perfect underwear solution for the season’s top trend – no ‘embarassing mishaps’ says the brand. It has an ultra deep V front and comes in a choice of black or nude. It costs £32 and is available through Wonderbra’s website.
Wonderbra also surveyed women about the celebrities who inspired them to try the daring look, and Holly Willoughby once again came top – she was voted Best Cleavage on National Cleavage Day earlier this year and topped the polls in 2012 as well.
Other plunge-inspiring celebrities include Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora, Blake Lively, Miranda Kerr, Sofia Vergara, Britney Spears, Kate Hudson, Taylor Swift and Lucy Mecklenburgh.
