Here at Fashion Bust, as you’ve probably already gathered, we’re a little bit in love with swimwear. My suitcase is always at least half filled with swimwear and I love to wear at least two a day while I’m on holiday. But this year I came across a little problem: the bikini I wore when I went to Ibiza this summer didn’t really fit the bill when I went to stay in a five start resort in Provence the following month.
Which got me thinking, we don’t talk about it a lot, but I know that every piece of swimwear I own has a destination where it fits best. My cut out Moontide swimsuit fits best on the sunny white shores of Ibiza, my navy jewelled bandeau one-piece by Opera fits better at the Terre Blanche resort in the South of France, and my black two-piece from Freya will be ideal under a kaftan as I grace the shores of Thailand at the end of the year.
So, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Family Traveller – the UK magazine and website dedicated to finding cool places to holiday with your family – and swimwear experts Figleaves to bring you an amazing selection of holiday destinations and the perfect swimwear to go with them.
Maya Riviera, Mexico
With its white sandy beaches and ancient ruins surrounded by colourful vegetation, Mexico’s Riviera Maya wins holiday cool points. There are 50 miles of beach which stretch down the Caribbean coast of Mexico from Cancun to Tulum – and there’s plenty of fun to be had exploring the landscape. Family Traveller recommends the Fairmont Mayakoba for its private visit to Sian Ka’an with lunch set out on white linen on the shore of the lake – ultimate romance! Checkout Family Traveller for more in Maya Riviera.

Heron Island, Australia
Travel experts describe this as one of the best places in the world to see marine life, and Family Traveller say it’s the perfect place for a chilled-out holiday and those that love the beach, snorkelling and water wildlife. At just 800m long and 300m wide, you’ll also love the laid-back vibe of this island. What we love most about it though is the accommodation, with rooms that curve around the island from the jetty to the northern-most beach, with beautiful views out to sea. Figleaves recommends: Coastline Sweetheart Bustier Bikini Top, Seafolly
Nautical stripes and and rope details give a sailor-by-the-sea feel to this two-piece bikini by Seafolly – a perfect recommendation for the small Heron Island that’s all about the sea. It has adjustable and convertible straps with underwiring and soft cups so it’s comfy and supportive to wear all day while you’re splashing around in the water.

Mnemba Island, Tanzania
Photo: Liz Harper
Family Traveller’s contributor Liz Harper described the sunsets at Mnemba Island as the most beautiful she’s ever seen. The little island is home to rustic beach houses, spoils you with personal butlers and is framed by soft white sand and sparkling waters. What’s more, there’s never more than 25 guests on the island at any one time, making it an ideal getaway for those who live busy lives. This luxury resort in the Maldives floats in the north of the atoll and its name, Noonu Anoll, Velaa, is taken from the bale of turtles that call it home. The Maldives is the ultimate romance destination, and despite the long flight is perfect for tots taking their first steps on the sand. This resort wins cool points for the private pools, sun decks and its many watersports. And if you’re that way inclined (who isn’t?) then the Clarins spa might take your fancy, too… Find out more and book at familytraveller.com
Figleaves recommends: Icon Spot Mesh Retro Skirted Shaping Swimsuit, Sophina by Figleaves.com
The Maldives is a luxury holiday, and so it should come with luxurious and elegant swimwear. The barefoot nature of the islands mean you’ll want something that can go from sea to beach to bar, and this swimsuit is perfect. The semi-sheer spot mesh and ruched details mean you can adjust the coverage for the bar and reveal more for the beach. It also has an inner power mesh panel, so when you’ve over-indulged on the delicious food you can still feel confident.

Panama City Beach, Florida
Three hundred and twenty days of sunshine a year and 27 miles of white sandy beaches – more of the same? Absolutely not. Get yourself to Panama City Beach for dolphin spotting, as its neighbouring Shell Island has the highest population of Bottle Nose dolphins in the world. And if you’re a wildlife-lover, you can spend a night sleeping with the sea life and learning about their nighttime habits. So. Much. Fun.
