Dr Pixie McKenna, star of Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies, has spoken out about the importance of sports bras and how many women are still put off exercise by breast pain.
Dr Pixie was speaking at the Moda Lingerie and Swimwear show, the UK’s national trade exhibition for lingerie and swimwear, at a presentation organised by Freya Active to present the brand’s groundbreaking new sports bra to the industry.
The doctor and TV star, who is a keen advocate of women’s health and the importance of exercise, talked about the on-going challenge of educating women about the need for adequate support during workouts, saying that more than 70% of women report breast pain when they exercise.
It is this breast pain that Freya’s new Crop Top Sports Bra is designed to eliminate, following the most extensive research yet into breast movement and strain during exercise.
The new bra has a crop top design with high coverage and encapsulates each breast rather than compressing them against the chest. Participants in the research studies reported that it reduced breast pain during exercise by up to 97%.
During the event, the bra was modelled by England Netball star Sasha Corbin, who has been trialling the sports bra along with the rest of the team. Sasha trains for up to 25 hours a week doing a range of high intensity workouts, and said that she and her team mates have all found the bra to be extremely comfortable.
‘We have all different sizes on the team and everyone likes it,’ she said. ‘I would definitely recommend this bra.’
The Freya Active Crop Top Sports Bra comes in sizes 28 D-GG, 30-32 D-H, 34-36 B-H, 38 B-GG and 40 B-G and is priced from £40. Stockists include Less Bounce and Figleaves.
