Curvy Kate model Lizzie Haines has shaved off her long, luscious locks for breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!, but she still needs your help to reach her £10,000 fundraising target.
The Star in a Bra winner and newlywed (she’s now Lizzie Adams) was motivated to take the drastic step after becoming aware of the work of the charity at a lingerie event last year, and she took the plunge on Valentine’s Day, raising a massive £7,500 so far. And there’s still time to donate!
‘It’s as much about awareness and keeping [breast cancer] in the public eye as it is fundraising,’ says Lizzie. ‘This is happening to women in my demographic, to women who are my friends and it is more important than ever for everyone to sit up and take notice.’
And with Curvy Kate working with CoppaFeel! on a number of initiatives this year, brand ambassador Lizzie was inspired to support their good work. She had her head shaved wearing Curvy Kate’s new CoppaFeel! Smoothie bra adorned with the charity’s signature hand print and bearing its ‘boob check’ message.
CoppaFeel!’s mission is to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer among young women, through initiatives such as #BraHijack, in the hope that more of the 50,000 cases diagnosed each year will be caught in their earliest stages and improve survival rates. You can find more information about the charity in our interview with founder Kris Hallenga, who was told at the age of 22 that she was too young for breast cancer, leading to a late diagnosis which meant her cancer can only be treated, not cured.
You can still help Lizzie reach her £10,000 target to support the work of CoppaFeel! by texting CHOP87 £xx to 70070 or visiting www.justgiving.com/chopforcopp.
Curvy Kate’s CoppaFeel! bra will go on sale in July, with £1 from every sale going straight to CoppaFeel!
And we’ll leave you with an image of the moment that beautiful hair was shaved off… well done, Lizzie!
