Tips for choosing figure-flattering swimwear

The design team at womenswear fashion house David Nieper offer their tops tips for choosing flattering swimwear that gives you confidence on the beach.

Everyone loves a holiday, but not all of us get excited at the thought of baring virtually all on the beach or by the pool. And this can be especially true as we get older, although finding flattering, comfortable swimwear can be a real challenge at any age! However, there are little details and styles to look out for that can make all the difference to your confidence.

With so many options out there, the designers at fashion house David Nieper, which makes its luxury womenswear, swimwear and travel collections here in the UK, give their tips on what to look for when choosing your item of swimwear.

Shape and cut

A good place to start is to look out for a midi-leg swimsuit or bikini. This should give good coverage across the bottom, helping you feel comfortable whilst sunbathing and swimming.

Keep an eye out for wider straps too. These tend to be more flattering and are also more functional as they provide more support, which is especially important for bigger busts.

Ruching across the stomach is also brilliant for disguising a bit of a tummy while also adding some attractive and on-trend detailing. For those wanting to show a bit more skin, a lower back always looks stylish.

Keep an eye out for flattering higher-waisted briefs and make sure the top has a good level of support.

Colours and prints

If you’re usually quite pale skinned, especially at the start of a holiday and develop your tan gradually, look out for colours that are kind to the skin. Tones of blue are a good option, as they work well for pale tones and tans.

When choosing prints, smaller, fluid, all-over designs tend to be the best choice in terms of boosting body confidence.

Kaftans and cover-ups

There are some really beautiful prints and designs out there, but where possible choose natural fabrics as these will help you to keep cool in the heat of the day.

Side splits and shorter ‘bracelet length’ sleeves are also good features to look out for, as this makes them much more functional when sitting by the pool or hitting the beach.
